Red Wattlebird In The Buddleja - Original Etching
This wattlebird was a friendly visitor to my garden last year. I sketched her while she perched in the buddleja outside my studio window.
This is a drypoint etching. I scratched the image into copper, inked it up and printed it onto damp cotton rag paper through my printing press. Every print in the edition has to be inked up by hand each time, thus they are known as 'original prints.' I included a bit of chine-colle over the bird. It was extremely fiddly and a 50/50 success rate, thus there are only 4 in this edition. ("chine-collé is a special printmaking technique in which paper of a different color or texture is adhered to the overall piece. The paper, usually in pre-cut shapes, is actually bonded to the heavier support paper of the print in the printmaking process.")
Image size - 29 x 39cm
Paper size - 54 x 61.5cm
