Red Wattlebird From Chiltern - Original Etching
I met this red wattlebird while on a birding/ drawing/ camping trip in Chiltern, Victoria, late last year. I loved the pose (every bird artist loves a 'looking over the shoulder' pose. Just sets off the composition nicely!)
This is an original dry point etching created by scratching the image into a metal plate as well as using acid in areas and sandpaper for tone. It is then inked up by rubbbing ink into all the lines and marks on the surface of the plate. The excess ink is wiped off and other colours added to the plate. It is then pulled through my printing press with damp paper on top. The pressure from the press transfers the ink from the plate onto the paper.
