Next in the series of my Australian bird books is The Beach Birds!

The Beach Birds consists of twelve riddles for readers to guess which Australian native bird, commonly found on beaches, estuaries and coastal areas, is being depicted. Lift the hidden flap on each double page to find out the answer. I hope that by interacting with the riddles and illustrations readers will soon familiarise themselves with these beautiful birds and find enjoyment in seeking them out while at the beach.

Suitable for ages 2 to 10. Young children will enjoy being read to and finding the lift the flaps, older children might enjoy answering the riddles and the more detailed info at the back.

Information about each bird can be found at the back, as well as a few tips for birding and helping with identifying your spottings!

The illustrations are all created from dry point etchings which have been hand coloured with watercolour paints.

This book is self published using my own publishing label - Black Cockatoo Books

I also have a CARD GAME to go with this book (see separate listing.)

Birds included in this book - Silver Gull, Crested Tern, Hooded Plover, Eastern Curlew, Pied Cormorant, Pied Oystercatcher, Masked Lapwing, Red-necked Stint, Pacific Gull, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Bar-tailed Godwit and Beach Stone-curlew.

Beautiful

Gorgeous illustrations capturing the beauty of the birds and their surroundings whilst giving enough information to introduce children to each bird

Beach Birds

Our family have 2 of this author's delightful books. 1 in Copenhagen, and 1 (the Beach Birds) in Melbourne. Our 2 granddaughters love seeing and hearing about them, but being aged 3, are still a bit young for us to really take them out and show how well, the live birds have been depicted. I am a bird watcher, so love leafing through the books when we manage to get together. Lovely work, Bridget Farmer, thank you.

Birds of a feather

Beach Birds is a colourful, interesting addition to a child’s library, not just for its engaging look at beach birds and their habitats but also for the budding artist. The use of printmaking, sketching and colouring techniques is on display. All of these things transport the viewer to the seaside. There is so much to look at and talk about on each page for the child viewer. The book is filled with birds easily recognisable as beach-dwellers and the accompanying information section at the back of the book provides further detail about the birds that are illustrated.
Thank you, Bridget!
