Description
A lyrical journey through a day of Australian birdlife.
Kookaburra Kookaburra begins with the morning call of the kookaburra and ends with a goodnight from the boobook owl. Along the way, readers are introduced to 12 of Australia’s most iconic birds, each accompanied by a short rhyme and a linoprinted illustration.
Ideal for children aged 2-8, this book encourages engagement with the natural world through rhythm, recognition, and visual storytelling. A gentle introduction to native bird species and the art of noticing.
At the back, you’ll find a brief description of each bird featured.
Illustrated using bold linoprint techniques, printed on recycled stock and self-published under Bridget’s Black Cockatoo Books label.
The Audiobook:
For ten years, Australian children have discovered Australian birds through the beloved Kookaburra Kookaburra book and card game. Now they can listen too!
Let Bridget's gentle voice take you through a day of birds in an Australian backyard. Listen out for the birdsong, which features each of the twelve birds you'll meet. Inspired by the classic read-along story recordings many of us grew up with, this audiobook includes a cheerful kookaburra laugh to let little listeners know when it's time to turn the page.
Download your audiobook instantly from the email you'll receive after purchase, and enjoy a screen-free storytime at home, on holiday, or in the car. Before long, your child may recognise the birds in their own backyard by sound, as well as sight!
