5 Ways With Washi: Sneak Peeks Of My New Washi Designs!
Washi (wa = Japanese, shi = paper) might just be the most delightful little roll of tape you'll ever meet. Made from rice paper, washi tape is decorative, lightly adhesive, and incredibly versatile. It’s a firm favourite among artists, crafters, stationery lovers, and DIYers alike—myself included!
Here are five ways to use washi—and a few reasons why I think you’ll fall in love with it too.
1. Wrap it up!
Washi makes gift wrapping extra special. You can use it in place of sticky tape to hold your wrapping paper together, or go one step further and let the washi shine.
Try using plain kraft, white or coloured paper, then decorate with patterns or stripes of washi—simple, sweet, and so effective.
2. Temporary Decor Magic
Did you know washi tape is gentle enough to use on your walls? It peels off easily without damaging paint, so it’s perfect for renters—or commitment-shy decorators!
Use it to add a pop of colour to shelves, frame a photo or postcard, or create mini murals that can be changed with the seasons (or your mood). It's lovely in the home office too, for pinning up reminders or a bit of inspiration.
3. Bring your Journal to Life
Washi and journaling go together like tea and biscuits. Whether you’re tracking daily plans or recording your weekend walks, washi can add colour, character, and a bit of joy to your pages.
Use it to divide sections, highlight dates, or create borders around your favourite entries. You can even use it to tape in little keepsakes—tickets, dried leaves, or feathers you’ve picked up along the way.
4. Keep your household organised
Ever mix up your glasses case or get confused about which key is which? Washi to the rescue!
Assign each family member their own washi pattern and label bottles, cases, lunchboxes, notebooks—anything that tends to go wandering.

5. Let the Kids Go Wild
Washi is a dream for creative kids—it’s tearable by hand (no scissors needed), easy to reposition, and leaves no sticky mess behind.
They can use it to decorate birthday cards, notebooks, school projects, or even furniture! It’s a great way to let them personalise their space, knowing it can all be peeled off later with no harm done. (Phew.)
These are just a few ways to use this charming little tape—but I’m sure you’ve got your own ideas too, and I’d love to hear them. Please tell me in the comments!
